Biometric Information Privacy Policy
- Introduction & Scope
At Barksdale School Portraits, we use technology to make school memories more accessible to our customers. This policy explains how we handle “Biometric Data” (specifically facial recognition and geometry templates) to help students and families find photos of their children/students at commencement and other ceremonies. - What We Collect
We store facial geometry templates. When a photo is uploaded, our system creates a mathematical map of facial features to find matches across thousands of images. This is considered Biometric Data. - Why We Collect It
We process this data only for the following purposes:
- Automated Sorting: Grouping images of the same student so parents don't have to search through full event galleries.
- Gallery Security: Ensuring that personalized galleries are only accessible to authorized parents or guardians.
- Order Fulfillment: Ensuring the correct student's photos are printed for the correct order.
- No Sale or Disclosure
Barksdale does not and will not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from your Biometric Data. We do not use this data for advertising, marketing, or student profiling. We only share this data with our secure service providers who are contractually required to protect it and use it only for the purposes listed above. - Retention and Destruction
Barksdale will permanently destroy Biometric Data on or before the later of the following: - Once the initial purpose for collecting the data has been satisfied (e.g., your student’s photos are matched and the gallery is delivered).
- One (1) year after the student or family’s last interaction with Barksdale.
- Your Rights & Control
Our customers have the following rights: - Right to Withdraw: Students and their parents can revoke their consent to use their Biometric Data technology at any time.
- Right to Delete or Modify: Students and their parents can request that we delete or modify their child’s biometric template immediately.
- Right to Access: Students and their parents can request a confirmation of whether Barksdale is processing their Biometric Data.
- Data Security
We use industry-standard encryption and security protocols to store and protect biometric identifiers. Access is restricted to a “need-to-know” basis for staff directly involved in photo processing and gallery security.
To exercise these rights: Students and their parents may contact us at service@barksdalephoto.com. We will process such a request as soon as feasible and no later than the timeframe required by applicable law (typically 30-45 days).
